History of Freeport Jet
Wash and Auto Mart Ltd.
The history of Freeport Jet Wash & Auto Mart goes
back 30 years ago, when Carmen Albury's father Neville
Roberts along with his brother, Dawson Roberts Sr.,
purchased the company. The Roberts brothers were pioneers in
the Bahamian auto industry, having brought the Shell Oil
company from England to the Bahamas in the 1960's and
previously having been the owner of the first auto
dealership (Austin-Healey) in the Bahamas. Neville Roberts
ran Freeport Jet Wash & Auto Mart Ltd. from the parent
company, Building Automotive & Marine Ltd., headquartered in
Nassau, until his death in 1982, upon which Neville's eldest
son John Roberts took over the management of the Freeport
operations, at which time extensive renovations and
improvements were made to the building and business.
In 1986 the parent company was dissolved in Nassau and
Carmen Albury came to Freeport to help her brother, John,
run the company. An untimely death ended the
successful career of John Roberts, and Carmen took over the
day-to-day management of the company, with great help from
John’s widow Carol. Larry Albury, Carmen's husband, joined
the management team in 1994 as operational manager and
inventory control manager. Today Larry Albury is the
General Manager.
